Terry Furey, 1st Vice President

Terry Furey is a long time North Torrance resident since 1987.  Her husband, Pat, is the former Mayor of Torrance.  Her two children attended Torrance schools where Terry was PTA President at Yukon Elementary and Co-President of Magruder Middle School for three years, where she received the PTA Honorary Service Award.

Terry started her employment with the Torrance Unified School District (TUSD) in 1990 as an Instructional Assistant then, as a Para Educator and ultimately a Job Developer working with high school students with special needs finding employment.  She retired in 2016 after 25 years of service with the district.  During her time at TUSD she was instrumental in organizing a bargaining unit for the unrepresented para educators of over 500 employees.  A union, California School Employees Association, that she is still an active board member of, even after retirement.

Terry is also a Personnel Commissioner for TUSD and a Commissioner for the County of Los Angeles Beaches and Harbor Commission, where she currently serves as the chair of both of these commissions.

Terry has been an active board member of the North Torrance Neighborhood Association since 2000, Torrance Education Foundation since 2004, American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Torrance since 2004.

She continues her volunteering with the USO LAX since 2017 and the Torrance Memorial Hospital's Festival of the Trees since 2017.

In her spare time she enjoys her grandchildren, traveling, Dodgers baseball and Notre Dame football.  

She ascribes to the old adage, "if you want something done, ask a busy woman."
