Marianne Hamada grew up in North Torrance, where her parents, Al and Frances Romero, bought their first house in 1955 and remained the sole owners until their passing. Her older siblings graduated from North High School in 1970, 1973, 1974, and 1976. As a child, Marianne was involved in Torrance Park & Recreation sports such as volleyball, basketball, and softball. She learned to swim at El Camino Community College when she was four and played for the Girls Softball Association at Hamilton School. Marianne attended St. Catherine Laboure, then Bishop Montgomery High School, graduating in 1985 while staying active in North Torrance. She later earned her associate’s degree at El Camino College before transferring to California State University, Long Beach, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Human Resources Management.
In 2011, Marianne and her husband, Eric Hamada, bought a home in North Torrance. The next year, Marianne’s mother, an early member of the North Torrance Neighborhood Association, introduced her to the group. Marianne began serving as Director at-Large from 2012 to January 2015, moved on to 1st Vice President from February 2015 to September 2016, and became President in October 2016, a role she continues to hold. She also participated in the 2017 City of Torrance Fire Department strategic plan and served on the City of Torrance Strategic Planning Committee from 2019 to 2021. In July 2021, Marianne was appointed Civil Service Commissioner and serving her second term. Marianne and Eric have hosted National Night Out for over ten years, fostering positive connections between the Torrance Police Department and the community.
Marianne remains dedicated to keeping residents informed about local developments, nurturing strong relationships with city leadership and employees, and always striving to improve life in North Torrance. Marianne and Eric are season ticket holders at the Torrance Theatre Company and enjoy quality time with their American Akita, Sachiko. Marianne enjoys stand up paddle boarding, traveling, game nights and outdoor adventures with her friends.
